Clermont head coach Vern Cotter has acknowledged how Leicester will be chomping at the bit to make another European final.

Leicester have not won their Heineken Cup since 2002 and their last appearance in a final came in 2009, when they lost to Leinster.

The Tigers now face the ominous task of travelling to Clermont in the quarter-final following their loss to Ulster.

Clermont have not lost at the Stade Marcel Michelin since 2009, with their winning streak currently stretching to an impressive 71 matches.

Richard Cockerill's squad do not lack for talent and Cotter is aware of the threat they pose, but has taken note of how Leicester fared when they travelled to Toulon in last season's quarter-final.

Cotter is leaving Clermont at the end of the season to take as head coach of the Scottish national side.

"I remember watching their quarter-final against Toulon last season and it was very difficult for them to win," Cotter told the Leicester Mercury.

"When we prepare for the game, we will keep those thoughts in our minds.

"Leicester are a proud club with a big history and they will be frustrated not to have got to a final in a while.

"We know they will be doing everything they can to get there this year. It will be a battle."
