Departing: Thomas Waldrom

Leicester Tigers boss Richard Cockerill has conceded the time is right for Thomas Waldrom to leave, with a "nasty" replacement required.

Waldrom has enjoyed a successful spell with the Tigers since joining from Super Rugby side the Crusaders in 2010.

The England number eight is now leaving Leicester to join fellow Premiership side Exeter Chiefs on a three-year deal next season.

Leicester still have options at eight in Jordan Crane and young Irishman Michael Noone, with Pablo Matera providing cover, but Cockerill had admitted that the current Premiership champions will look to bring in someone new at the back of the scrum.

Highlighting the qualities that Leicester were looking for, Cockerill added that the Tigers will search for a "big and nasty" ball carrier.

"Tom has been here for four years and has been really good for us," Cockerill told the Leicester Mercury.

"Sometimes with players, like everything, there comes a natural end and that has probably come with Tommy here.

"He has decided to go and do something different.

"He's turning 31 soon and has signed a deal on good money. There are three or four months left this season so we will see some of him before then.

"We will be looking for someone who is big and nasty and carries the ball."
