Parting ways: Cockerill & Flood

Leicester Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill has confirmed that Toby Flood will leave the club at the end of the season.

Cockerill confirmed the news when speaking to BT Sport's Martin Bayfield before kick-off ahead of Leicester's match against Saracens.

Flood had tweeted on Friday that no decision would be made on his future until January, but Cockerill's revelation now only leaves in doubt where Flood will end up away from Welford Road.

After the Tigers thumping 49-10 defeat at Allianz Park, Cockerill spoke officially on the matter.

"Toby rang me and said he has decided to go and do other things. I suspect probably in France," Cockerill told the Tigers website.

"He is our club captain, and he will be our captain until the end of the season. There is a long way to go and a lot of things to do.

"We have had lots of situations where guys move on and the good ones, and Floody is certainly one of the good ones, make their decision and concentrate on playing and we will try to win the Premiership and do what we can in the Heineken Cup.

"Floody has been great for us and he will continue to be great for us for the rest of the season."

The 28-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Top 14, with Toulouse the apparent favourites to secure his signature.

An England international with 60 caps, Flood has huge experience in both Tests and European rugby.

Should he join Toulouse, Flood would compete promising youngster Jean-Pascal Barraque for the number ten jersey.

Former All Black fly-half Luke McAlister, the current number one and long-term absentee, is out of contract at the end of this season having signed a three-year deal in 2011.
