Eventful night: Alesana Tuilagi escapes Andy Goode

Leicester Tigers ran seven tries past Worcester Warriors on Friday for an easy 43-13 Aviva Premiership win at Welford Road.

Former Tigers favourite Andy Goode, who had already been sin-binned, received a straight red card in the 35th minute from referee Wayne Barnes for a flying shoulder charge on England flanker Tom Croft leading to a crushing win for the hosts.

Goode gave the visitors the lead with an early penalty but, after a period of concerted pressure from the home pack, he was sent to the sin bin for slowing the ball down by entering a ruck from the side next to his own try-line.

Leicester dominated possession and territory throughout the first half though and it didn't take them long to take advantage of the extra man as Scott Hamilton had acres of space and plenty of time to gather in Toby Flood's cross-field kick before strolling across the line.

Things didn't get any better for the Warriors when they were restored to their full complement of players either as George Chuter rumbled over for a second try.

Alesana Tuilagi was denied a try seconds earlier after being forced into touch just metres short of the line but the Tigers stole the ensuing line-out and Chuter was not going to be stopped from close range.

Worcester's hopes were dealt an even more severe blow minutes before the half-time whistle as Goode, perhaps too fired up for his first return to Welford Road since leaving the club in 2008, was sent off for an unsavoury, off-the-ball hit on Croft.

And Croft responded in the perfect manner by accelerating onto a short pass from Geordan Murphy to score in the corner and make it 17-3 at the break.

Replacement fly-half Danny Gray did register another three points for the Warriors a few minutes into the second half but Martin Castrogiovanni secured the bonus point for the Tigers shortly afterwards, powering over after incessant pressure from the forwards.

Ed Slater's sin-binning moments later meant there was a level playing field for ten minutes in terms of numbers but Worcester were still unable to trouble the scoreboard and Leicester even added another score with a typically strong run from Thomas Waldrom.

Replacement hooker Tom Youngs added a sixth try midway through the half and another substitute George Ford also got in on the act, bursting onto a short ball from Steve Mafi to make it 43-6.

Prop Ceri Jones, on as a replacement for Matt Mullan, did add a late consolation try for the Warriors but it was a night to forget for them.

Leicester, meanwhile, will be happy with their evening's work and have solidified their place in the play-off positions.
