@ lawynd - Half the player? Pretty easy. Burns, Hodgson, Alex Goode, Myler, Cipriani, Heathcote, Ford...Flood IS better than them, but he doesn't exactly set the bar all that high to be honest.

@ - RDavison - think he managed to get into the squad whilst he was at Newcastle. Not sure the Leicester angle helped him much then. And to be fair, Leicester have been one of the top two sides in England (arguably Europe) over the last decade.

@BWJC - Youngs was second only to Genia in the world for about a year, but has lost his form after injury; hardly his fault. To suggest he's 'overrated' suggests you don't watch enough Leicester or England games.

@RDavison - usually the Leicester conspiracy theorists stick to Sky Sports; I guess a story like this brings all sorts out of the woodwork, though. Up until Farrell's emergence, point me to an English fly-half, Wilkinson aside, that was even half the player that Flood is. He's no world beater but was easily the best option we had until recently.

What matches has this bloke been watching Youngs & Flood have been crap all season. jonesy2 you're right he only got in the squad because he played for Leicester. Johnson played for Leicester, read into that what you like people.

I really wish coaches would keep their traps shut on matters like this. For some reason, both Cockerill and O'Connor seem to think that the national team should help play players into form; well if ever there was an indicator that Cockerill definitely isn't ready for international coaching, I don't know what is. Be grateful that you've got them both available for the LV Cup game!

Hew needs to wake up. Can't he see that youngs and floods form is bad? Everyone else can. Ad to go public like this just makes him look a bit stupid.

What rubbish...flood is slowly regaining form and should take hodgsons place once he has regained that form fully as should youngs who currently is playing very poorly. And how can he use leicester as precedent when their game plan consists of dominating in the forwards and slowly squeezing the life out of teams before scoring through their strong finishing backs (eg: tuilagi). Ashton hasn't been on form since his little fall out with Mallinder but give him time and he'll be back, as will Foden who just isn't seeing the game open up as well for him recently on the counter...

In a perverse kind of way, I had hoped to see young Ford play for Leicester against us on Friday, he looks a real prospect. Hopefully it'll be a dry evening down at the Rec and we can get Banahan running at Flood...how creative is that!

(I'm also hopeful that Flood will have a terrible game this weekend. And the rest of the Tigers can have a shocker too, please!

C'mon Baaaaaaath!)

What an idiot. SL is picking the in form players which is the right way to do things. I don't want a player picked for how they were playing a year ago!

No doubt the time off will inspire them to push forward and improve.

God i wish club coaches would stay stum sometimes O'Connor must relasise that neither Flood or Youngs atm are in their best form.whiich you need for international rugby Hodgson in contrast is in form and played spectacally well last weekend.I also dought that SL and co dont know what Flood and youngs can offer when in form either.and are being true to thier word in picking in form players for England .Both Flood and Youngs will return for England so have no reason to dought themselves all they need is to recapture their form of the 6Ns last year. Also im pretty sure Lieceaster supporters are glad Flood will be leading the backline for the LV Cup semifinal knowing G.Ford is on the bench if needed. Now its incumbent on the SH to give Flood the service he wants which imo he didnt the last time they played together. Then Flood will feel confidant and nodought play well

Some good points being made there but a load of old tosh about Youngs - 'England don't want creative players, they are just trying not to lose' - certainly will lose with Youngs playing the way he has been for England!!

Having read the full article, I'm still thoroughly unimpressed by this bloke. He is just like Cockers - too much mouth and comes across as ungrateful and ungracious. He also went onto say:

"Don't start telling me that they are bad players because I am not having it."

Has he not been watching the England matches when they've played? Youngs was providing ball that was so slow, we couldn't get any "go forward" and Flood was off his game too.

The four players he cited as being England's best attackers have been non-existent. Is that coaching, form or a combination? I suspect a combination. Ashton hasn't been poaching and running lines off the 10 like he used to. Flood's getting slow ball and, therefore, unable to release anyone. Foden's been impotent and none have been playing to their potential.

Yes, they both played better against Gloucester. But perhaps dropping them from England put a rocket up their arses and did the trick.
