Gloucester may act on yellow cards

Gloucester boss Nigel Davies has hinted that team selection may be affected after losing three players to the bin on Saturday.

Jimmy Cowan, Tom Savage and Martyn Thomas were all yellow carded in the 27-19 loss to Harlequins.

Davies underlined the damage done by Cowan's departure midway through the first half, whilst also being heavily critical of the decision by referee Matthew Carley to dismiss Thomas.

"For the first 20 to 25 minutes we were in the contest but the yellow card for Cowan saw a huge momentum swing," said Davies.

"I have no complaints about the first two yellow cards but the third one for Martyn Thomas was farcical as I couldn't work it out at all.

"There were some decent bits from us, but giving away yellow cards is your responsibility and this issue may be brought up when it comes down to selection. This team is better than they are playing."

Harlequins boss Conor O'Shea was happy enough with the result, although the former Ireland full-back was left scratching his head at the TMO decision to disallow a try for Tom Williams for a forward pass that would have given Quins a try bonus point.

O'Shea was however pleased to see the 2012 champions stretch their run to three consecutive wins in the Aviva Premiership as they move back into the top four.

"We let the momentum go in the game, when we were in total control. I don't understand why we took our foot off the pedal," O'Shea said.

"For the life of me I cannot understand how that [Williams] decision was reached.

"We want the right decisions to be made as one point lost could mean a lot at the end of the season.

"That is three consecutive wins in the Premiership and we are back in the top four. We are digging our way back but we are going to have to be more ruthless."
