Bath scrum-half Michael Claassens is considering extending his contract with the club beyond the end of this season.

The former Springbok initially joined the club back in 2007 and has settled into life in the city, making over 100 appearances for the club as well as captaining the side on numerous occasions.

Currently forming a potent half-back combination with Stephen Donald, Claassens admits he is considering whether to extend his stay in the UK for a third time, or return home to the hard grounds of South Africa and Super Rugby.

"I'm keeping my options open because my plan was to come over to Bath for two years but I've ended up being here for six and I've enjoyed it so much," Claassens told thisisBath.co.uk.

"We will have to see what the club's plans are and take it from there."

"I don't think any players, not even those who grew up here, like the rain. I prefer dry ball but after five or six years I'm used to it."

"Mentally, the conditions don't make a difference to me. It's about the performance, not the weather. If you perform well then you get the result, and that's how you enjoy rugby."

@Frooschman

Couldn't have worded it any better.

@luv2h8

no, horrendous signings like, Vesty, Hipkiss, Hape, Moody (great player but what was he ever going to do for Bath as a signing at the end of his career), Donald, some other league covert that I cant even remember that name of..........oh Chev Walker and the release of instrumental players like, B.James, Barkley twice, Balshaw, Catt, need I go on, Bath have a terrible track record of signing big names rather than decent players and releasing decent players who have come through the academy.

@ luv2h8 - for each of those there's been a stinker. And we can go back through the ages and look at the ins and outs ad infinitum. I think, however, we all agree that keeping Claas would be a good idea.

And I am still sore about Mike Catt.

OK Bath, you're not great when it comes to signing new players. You're not great when it comes to letting them go either. So let's not f*ck this up! Draw up a contract. Get Michael to sign it. Don't d!ck around.
