In reality McGeechan achieved everything he has ever done on the back of others. At Bath he was exposed with no one else to do work for him. He has ruined Bath like the other clubs he has 'coached'. Let's hope that Bath, one of the truly great clubs in the game, can quickly get back on top.

Lot of sense from APV and co - I agree about Attwood - for me he is definitely the real deal - I think his disciplinary probs in the past have affected him a bit - but see nothing but upside for him - Webber is OK, but I hope and believe we are looking for a couple of big names, and Crockett/ B Du P are the 2 i would most hope for - it may be right that Wilson is sufficient, but I am personally disaapointed that he hasnt imposed himself more.

One other player who I nver understood being signed was Simon Taylor - he was clearly past his best (rumour is he didnt come cheap), and just isnt an impact no 8.

Lots of good coaches out there to bring in - but as I said - all semantics if we dont get the recruitment of players right.

I'd go for Catt, he'd be able to turn the perfectly capable bath backline into a perfectly capable and scoring backline with guys like hipkiss, abendanon, bannahan, carraro, biggs and heathcoate this should really be happening anyway... get rid of a couple of props and donald...he's poor and always was (even in super rugby) and build the team around Attwood, Meers, Webber, Perenise, heathcoate, Louw, mercer and the aforementioned backs (minus carraro and plus classens). What Bath need are more depth at prop, another decent second rower or two a decent specialist 8 with a bit of strength to add to the back row's carrying ability, a new young 9 even if that means poaching one from another club's academy and developing them (like alex day from saints), another decent 10 (there are plenty of up and coming 10's with lots of talent) a proper all round good centre to partner hipkiss and maybe a decent utility back (not barkley).

@ melkdave & Centre12 - a combo of Mallett (Director of Rugby), Booth (Head Coach) and Catt (Backs Coach) seems like a fairly formidable team. Would Booth play understudy to Mallett, though..? Perhaps. And we need a recognised Forwards coach too. And with IRFU looking for one, there's stiff competition.

We've got to consider how many chiefs we need too. With Brucey holding the purse and Blofeld as CEO, do we need a DoR as well? How many big egos could we manage with..?

@ Centre12 - I agree that our recruitment has been woeful, but I understood the signing of Beaver. He wasn't a RWC winner when we signed him, although was an AB, which always gives qudos. But for someone for Heathcote to learn from, I felt he was ideal. Unfortunately, due to injury (and alleged lack of integration), he's not done what we'd hoped. Although his injuries have given Heathcote a great opportunity and hasn't he taken it well?!

The other three were pretty poor signings. I love Mad Dog, but we should never have taken him. Hipkiss and Vesty were easy choices, as they are reasonable club players who fill gaps - cheap and chearful, pehaps...

Attwood, imo, hasn't put a foot wrong so far. I think he and Caldwell make a great partnership in the 2R, but we need back-up there too. Especially if Attwood does break into the EPS, which I think he will.

Mears? He'll be a good mentor for Webber, but can't be considered our long-term option. Who's in the Academy at the moment..?

I agree about Claasens. Another season and use him to develop a young 9.

Henson - no! SBW..?

So, simply put, we need new coaches, a new FR, 2R and BR. New half-backs and centres. And a new back 3. Then we need talented and new squad members to support the default starting 15 and push them.

Easy really.

There are a few things Bath need to do

1 - Hire a high profile head coach who has a proven track record, Mallet, Cheika, Catt, Booth or a combination of the names mentioned, Gold wouldn't get a look in if it were down to me, has done nothing while at Newcastle. My lala land choice would be Ewan Mackenzie (excuse spelling) but I am a realist and cant see that ever happening.

2 - SACK who ever is in charge of recruitment, Moody, Hipkiss, Donald, Vesty common guys, Moody only played a handful of games, Hipkiss's best days are well and truely behind him, Donald is just a name and Vesty, although versatile is at best an average club player. I dread to think about how much money was wasted on these 4 players alone!!!!!!!!!

3 - Have a clear out of players and invest in some young, fresh exciting talent. I echo previous posts in saying that there needs to be more bite to the front five and all this talk about Attwood, well he needs to start fronting up if he wants to get back into England contention. With Mears and Webber I see the props as the main weakness and something needs to be done about this sooner rather than later.

As far as the backs are concerned, I would keep Classens on for another season or two but at the same time buy a young talented 9, someone like Spencer (Sarries) and get them playing more regular first team games. #10 develop Heathcoat into the player that he can clearly become, get rid of Donald and get some $$$$$ in the bank. As for the centre's I would search the globe high and low for 3 decent centres who can also play in more than one position, when available I would have gone for McAlister but now I'd probably have a word with Robbie Furan if he doesn't get selected by the AB's this year.

4 - Dont even think about giving Henson "another chance"

If Booth and Catt are leaving L.irish as rumoured they migh yet end up at Bath..Myself still feel that N.Mallet along with them would be a fantastic combination as coaches. That Bath need a new front row is very clear .Flatman and Bell despite their service and experiance just arnt up to scratch imo.Wilson is ok imo but needs a good partner on the other side Crocket would be a good signing imo but just cant see it happening .Perhaps an up an comming Italain would fit the bill better ??

@ ruckman - we've got Rob Webber joining us as a hooker. BdP to start, with Webber as his understudy? Nice idea, but I can't see BdP coming over to us, can you?

My other concern is Webber is going to be an integral part of the EPS, I suspect, so I'd rather have him starting. If we had BdP, Webber wouldn't get a look in.

He was a failure I'm afraid - Meehan did a good job and was unlucky to be ousted imo - but whoever we get, it will all be semantics until we build a rugged nasty front five that can compete with the top sides - frankly Flatman and Wilson should be released - Beech shows some promise but needs to improve his scrummaging as with our Samona friend - who is superb about the park, but not up to permiership standard at scrum time (which for a tight head must come first) - I think we need 3 more props and a hooker (Catt is at best unproven)- personally if we are going to make a big signing - I think we should bring in Bismark Du Plessis - he'd lead from the front, and get some steel back into our forward play - its about time!!!!! Incidentally Crockett was seen as surplus to requirements by the AB's - go get him.!
