Nick Evans: On target for Harlequins

Harlequins maintained their position at the top of the Aviva Premiership table after an impressive 26-13 win over Bath on Saturday.

Bath headed into the game with severe injury problems in the centre position but gave their in-form visitors a real scare.

Harlequins took an early lead through a Nick Evans penalty after Dan Hipkiss had been penalised for holding on to the man with the ball.

But Bath took the lead shortly after when Dave Atwood crashed over from the scrum. Sam Vesty added the extras to give the home side a 7-3 lead, but their advantage didn't last long.

On 15 minutes Chris Robshaw was the man under Quins' pack charge to plant the ball down. Evans was again on the mark with the boot and added a second penalty minutes later.

That made it 7-13 to the visitors with less than a quarter of the game played, but neither side were able to trouble the scorers further before the interval.

Following the restart two more Evans penalties stretched Quins' lead although an effort in response from Vesty kept Bath within ten points.

Ten minutes from time another Vesty penalty took the home side to within a converted try, but any hopes they had of finding a winner in the closing stages were extinguished when Mike Brown crossed for a try that was as spectacular as it was decisive.

The victory maintains Quins' excellent start to the season, while defeat for Bath scuppers their ambitions of breaking into the top four.
