New Zealand's Women sealed a first win over England since 2010 with a 29-10 victory at Eden Park on Saturday.
Three tries from Portia Woodman, Amiria Rule and Justine Lavea took the world champions to victory against a combative England side.
The scoreline eventually got away from England at the death as Rule and Lavea crossed in the final ten minutes.
England's power at the scrum gradually ebbed away as the match progressed, with the Kiwis inspired by their number eight Casey Robertson and the introduction of experienced scrum-half replacement Emma Jensen who pinned England back in defence with some clever kicking following her introduction.
There were bright spots for England, particularly the performance of openside Marlie Packer who scored the visitors only try and was especially effective carrying the ball forward in the absence of Maggie Alphonsi in the back-row.
Packer's try came off the back of an effective rolling maul from England after half an hour to bring them back into the match at 8-7, with Emily Scarratt and Kelly Brazier trading penalties before New Zealand burst free late on.
Rule managed to avoid the touchline to finish smartly in the left-hand corner and Lavea charged through a gap between two defenders from ten metres out and did enough to touch down.
The Black Ferns now take a 1-0 lead in the Test series ahead of further matches in Waikato and Pukekohe.
