Rising star Cory Allen starred as Cardiff Blues secured a noteworthy 29-22 victory over Scottish opponents Edinburgh on Friday.

A late try from Dafydd Hewitt' gave Cardiff Blues back-to-back victories in the Pro12.

Matt Scott scored early on for the hosts but Cory Allen, Filo Paulo and Dan Fish scored tries to hand Cardiff Blues the ascendency.

Tom Brown did score the home side's second try of the evening to give them hope in the second-half, but Hewitt went over in the closing moments to secure the win for the Welsh side.

Just two minutes in Cardiff Blues were ahead as Gareth Davies converted a penalty, although Edinburgh were level moments later as Jack Cuthbert replied with a penalty of his own.

Cardiff started the contest on the front-foot but it was Edinburgh who scored the first try when Scott showed great strength and determination to go over after ten minutes to give the hosts a 10-3 lead.

Cardiff remained well on top and nearly responded immediately only for a knock-on to spoil a good opportunity.

Though, shortly after Allen went through to level the scores back up. And after half an hour Cardiff were back in front as lock Paulo drove his way over, with Davies adding the extras with a convincing kick from out wide.

The Blues went in at the break seven points in the clear, and came out after the restart adding to that lead instantly when full-back Fish went over to score.

Edinburgh responded well to this setback, though, and were rewarded on 47 minutes when Brown picked the ball up and went over to halve the hosts deficit.

Both sides then exchanged good periods of pressure on each other but were unable to get beyond their opponents back-line.

Alex Cuthbert looked like making the game safe for Cardiff Blues late on after breaking through, only to knock on after a great tackle by Edinburgh namesake Jack. But the visitors did put the game to bed with five minutes remaining as Hewitt scored out wide, also securing a bonus-point in the process.

Davies missed the conversion and Edinburgh capitalised on the miss. Cornell du Preez went over at the death to secure a losing bonus-point for the Scottish hosts, to give them some consolation for their evening's work.
