Canterbury ended Wellington's unbeaten run in the ITM Cup thanks to a 20-12 victory in Christchurch on Saturday.

Rated as two of the form teams heading into the match, the hosts strangled their opposition for much of the match in a clinical showing.

Luke Katene dotted down early as the hosts lead 10-5 at half-time, before Telusa Veainu secured the win with a double in the second spell.

Matt Proctor and Scott Fugistaller scored the visitors' tries.
