Grudge match: Bulls v Stormers

It's that time of week where we put our heads on the chopping block with Planet Rugby's predictions from both hemispheres.

In the Premiership and PRO12, we've almost reached the climax of the regular domestic season - there is one more weekend left for teams to either force their way into a semi-final spot, or bag an all-important home playoff tie - while the first of the Top 14 playoffs kicks off in Toulouse.

South of the Equator, Jake White returns to Canberra with his table-topping Sharks side on Saturday, while there is a North-South derby taking place in Pretoria as the Stormers travel to take on the Bulls.

For many teams, this is what the season boils down to - what better way to mark the occasion than to take advantage of the many rugby betting opportunities on offer?!

Let's get started.

SuperBruPremiership predictions:

Irish v Sale: The boys from the North will continue their fine form. Sale by 7!
Leicester v Saracens: The visitors will edge an engrossing encounter. Sarries by 3!
Newcastle v Exeter: Falcons will squeeze out a drab win. Newcastle by 4!
Northampton v Wasps: Saints to dominate and win by 10!
Worcester v Gloucester: The Cherry and Whites are too strong; Gloucester by 6!
Harlequins v Bath: The visitors will seal their playoff spot. Bath by 5!

SuperBru Pro12 predictions:

Ospreys v Connacht: Ospreys to finish their season on a high, and win by 12!
Dragons v Treviso: The hosts to eek out victory; Dragons by 7!
Leinster v Edinburgh: Leinster cement their first-place finish and win by 18!
Munster v Ulster: The hosts to take the inter-provincial derby, Munster by 6!
Glasgow v Zebre: The Warriors will make history and bag a home playoff; Glasgow by 15!
Scarlets v Blues: Simon Easterby's men secure their Euro spot; Scarlets by 7!

Top 14

Toulouse v Racing Métro: This being French rugby, it's usually wise to back the hosts - even if that mischievous old warhorse Guy Noves has rung the changes to his Toulouse XV - in a tight clash. We like the 10/3 odds you can get on the homeboys by backing them to beat their big-spending Parisian rivals by 6-10 points with Paddy Power.

We're also a fan of the site's 15/2 tag for Yoann Huget, a shining light for France in the Six Nations, to touch down first, but we reckon you could do a lot worse than backing Louis Picamoles to score anytime at 16/5. Likewise for the visitors' Jamie Roberts at 7/1.

Despite their miserable European failure at Thomond Park, we don't see Toulouse slipping up on Friday. Toulouse by 8.

Super Rugby

Bulls v Stormers: We round things off on the Highveld at one of rugby's greatest venues, Loftus Versfeld. We don't imagine the hardened Pretoria faithful will be treated to a barrel-load of tries, but we do expect this grudge match to be an improvement on many of its counterparts this season - not that that would be too difficult. The Stormers, led by Schalk Burger, are not quite ready to be labelled "resurgent" after a dreadful start to their Super Rugby campaign, but there are at least some reasons to be encouraged for the Cape Town outfit.

The Bulls, meanwhile, will rely on their usual blend of uncompromising forward play and smart game management, skippered once again by Victor Matfield.

We agree with Paddy Power's assertion that the hosts will prove too strong for a Stormers squad still finding their way, and we think a handicap of (-6) at 10/11 is a very good bet, as is backing the Bulls to win by 6-10 points at 7/2.

It's worth remembering the visitors have been hit hard by a lengthy injury list, and there are several debutants in Allister Coetzee's squad. For all that they'll come out fit and firing in what is a huge clash of SA titans, the Bulls at Loftus won't slip up. Bulls by nine.

Superbru Super Rugby predictions:

Rebels v Hurricanes: A recovery from the visitors. Hurricanes by 4!
Chiefs v Blues: The hosts should be too savvy for the travelling Blues. Chiefs by 10!
Brumbies v Sharks: Jake White's ex-team will come back to haunt him as the Brumbies take the spoils. Brumbies by 7!
Highlanders v Lions: This game is the Lions' best chance of securing a win on their four-match tour. They'll be competitive but, in the end, the hosts will still be victorious. Highlanders to win by 6!
Cheetahs v Force: The Force to capitalise on poor defence, and hold fast themselves. Force by 5!

Good luck!
