ProD2 side Lyon have made a statement by recruiting veteran Australia flanker George Smith for next season as they push for promotion.
Lyon are currently 11 points clear at the top of the ProD2 and with their attention slowly turning towards next season, Smith is expected to the first of many signings for the ambitious club.
Smith played in Super Rugby last year with the Brumbies and featured against the British and Irish Lions.
The 33-year-old has been playing in Japan but previously featured in France for Toulon.
"We are delighted to welcome a player of the calibre of George Smith," said Lyon president Yann Roubert.
"We are counting on his talent, his experience and his leadership to help the team in its progression and to meet the ambitions of the club."
Lyon have also been linked with Toulon duo Pierrick Gunther and Frédéric Michalak, while former France captain Lionel Nallet plus Argentina duo Juan Manuel Leguizamón and Nicolás Vergallo are currently on their books.
