Honest view: Jonathan Sexton

Ireland fly-half Jonathan Sexton has revealed that he has felt like quitting Racing Métro this season, saying he's "really struggled" at the Paris outfit.

The 28-year-old, who switched to the Top 14 in a big-money deal in the off-season, spoke openly to BBC Sport on how he has found life in France.

"Me and my wife really struggled with it at the start," he said, before explaining the difficulties.

"It's pretty easy to settle into a club (in Britain or Ireland) because everyone is doing their best to make you feel at home. But the simple things (in France) like going to the shop and you don't know where it is or getting petrol when you don't know how to ask for it. It was a stress and tough going."

Sexton, whose club side is struggling in the Top 14 as they currently sit outside the top six spots, continued by saying he has felt like walking out.

"There's been some games when I walk in on the Monday morning and thought about telling them 'I'm going home', that's how I've felt," he revealed.

"There's other games where I've felt 'this is the start of it, it's brilliant and I could be here forever'. There's ups and downs along the way and I suppose you just have to make the most of it."

Sexton was speaking after the decisions of both Sean O'Brien and Jamie Heaslip to stay in Ireland, thus resisting the temptation of joining him in France. He praised their stance.

"I think it's great that they're staying, the IRFU, fair play to them, they've really stepped up to the plate," he said.

"I think it's important for Irish rugby that guys stay.

"I sound like a hypocrite, but that's the bottom line."
