Toulouse captain Thierry Dusautoir believes their victory over Clermont stands them in good stead going into their European clash with Saracens.
Sunday's 19-12 win means Guy Novès' charges return to Heineken Cup action on a high, which will be vital against England's league leaders.
And flanker Dusautoir admitted just that as his side saw off the challenge of the Top 14 pace-setters at Stade Ernest-Wallon for the four points.
"It's good to beat the leaders Clermont during this period where we weren't playing very good rugby," said Toulouse captain Dusautoir after the win.
"That gives us a boost before the visit of Saracens (in their Heineken Cup showdown next weekend)."
Meanwhile, Clermont inside centre Wesley Fofana said his side would count the cost of their errors as they succumbed to defeat ahead of facing Harlequins on the road this week.
"We have regrets. We gave away a lot of turnovers and that doesn't get forgiven," he said.
"It was a very physical match (but) we go home home with something, that's better than nothing."
