Sheridan extends Toulon stay

Andrew Sheridan Toulon 2012

In form: Andrew Sheridan

Toulon and former England prop Andrew Sheridan has signed a new contract with the French side to remain at the club until 2015.

Sheridan joined Toulon from Sale at the beginning of this season on a two-year deal, but has opted to extend his deal after an impressive start to his career with the French club making 21 appearances.

The 32-year old has beaten off competition from Wales and fellow Lions prop Gethin Jenkins for the loosehead slot as Toulon have reached the Heineken Cup quarter-finals and sit in 1st place in the Top 14.

And by 'England', I obviously mean 'The Lions'. No more lunchtime beverages for me...

@cliffguy - Sheridan had one England cap to his name prior to the 2005 tour, so it's not really a surprise that he wasn't a starter! I could equally say that on the 2009 tour, England were better with Sheridan on the field - given that we won the third test! Context is everything...

I think he's in his prime right now. Before 2007 there was a bit of hype bases on his physique rather than his preformances, since then, when he's fit, which hasn;t been often enough sadly, he's added ball carrying and improved his scummaging technique. He's more likely to turn Gatland's head than Steffon Armitage who profits off his front five's platform.

One of the best props I ever saw.... but injury prone when he played for England.

Do we know yet if Gatland is prepared to select France based players ?

All very strange; Jenkins kept Sheridan on the sidelines for not one, but two Lions tours. I'm afraid it's a sign of the sad state of French rugby at present. Unlike Wales, England will be at home this week-end, and really should have no excuses for not beating France soundly. They're unable to cope with the more varied and 15-man nature of international rugby because thier domestic game is so forwards-orinetated, and relies on big, talentless lumps like Sheridan.

Sheridan and Carl Hayman. Must be quite a handy front row.

Even though he's not on the England scene anymore he's surely got to be a shoe in for the Lions this summer.
