Pumas lock heads to Racing

Patricio Albacete

Moving on: Manuel Carizza

Racing-Metro have completed the signing of Argentina second-row Manuel Carizza as medical cover for New Zealand forward Johnny Leo'o.

The 28-year-old has been at Biarritz since 2005 and helped the Basque country club win the 2006 Top 14 title as well as the Amlin Challenge Cup last season and also played in two losing Heineken Cup finals in 2006 and 2010.

The international has 29 caps for Argentina and played six matches in the Rugby Championship involving New Zealand, Australia and South Africa.

"Between the injury suffered by Santiago Dellape and the international call-up for Fijian Jone Qovu, we thought we were short of cover in the second row," explained Racing coach Gonzalo Quesada.

Flanker Leo'o is sidelined indefinitely after suffering a blood clot on the lungs.

If he played in all 6 tests of the Rugby Championship then he won't be much help as a medical joker as I'm sure Los Pumas will call upon him again for their Autumn test matches.
