I thought that playing abroad wasn't ruling yourself out of the EPS, it just made it more difficult because of timings and being a bit more out of the eye of the selectors.

However, the fact that his brother isn't even in contention for the #7 spot seems to suggest that might not be entirely true.

Kawasakifreak and Bones7, can you think of any positive things to say about Martin Johnson ? I certainly can. I will admit his time in charge of the England time was a bad time. But let's not forget about what a great player and captain of England he was.

Meanwhile, this article is about Delon Armitage who, if he could get his self-discipline under control, might still be a good player for England. He's got good defence, a good turn of speed and can play wing or full back. We have Foden, Goode and Brown who are also competent full backs but I think it's no bad thing for SL to have some selection options to keep the pressure on players to keep on performing well.

On the other hand, maybe someone can advise me on this... by going to France, has Delon Armitage now ruled himself out of further selection for England ?

5Lock4ward - totally agree.

Kennedy would have been an AB if he was born or had played in NZ.

Another example of NH selection & game plan incompetence - never more so than with Matt Johnson who would only pick his mates or donkeys.

Too bad Kennedy never caught on w/ England. Great line-out jumper and ball carrier. The fact that NH teams don't recognize those traits in a lock is symptomatic of their lack of victories over the SH. Still think capping him was done out of spite to keep him out of Irish green.

Agree he's never let England down discipline excluded but he has if you include discipline on and off the pitch whereas Foden has not and is also talented. That said I prefer Armitage above Goode and even Ashton. I would start Brown at 15, Armitage at 14 outside Joseph and Foden at 11. Twelvetrees 12 with Farrell 10 and Tuilagi for impact off the bench.

Wish the Armitage bros would shift to an England club. They would be in the elite squad if they'd stayed in England.

This guy has more talent than Foden and the rest, not only that but he has never let England down. You get the impression he wasn't picked for other reasons, but talent he has in bucketfulls. He'll blossom at Toulon like Steffan and should be back in the squad for England by next year. I certainly hope so.

completely misused under Martin Johnson as well, who had him sitting at the back catching balls and punting them into touch for the entire 80 mins instead of getting him involved regularly in attacking plays

Shame he had such a short fuse, he was a really good player and consistently too...

Just goes to show what a bit of maturity, focus & hard work can produce in this man. A regular in the England 22 squad until his ego hit the self-destruct button.

Even Graham Henry thought Delon Armitage was a good player.

What a waste !

The ideal bench player for england covering, centre, wing and fullback, also a very talented player looking comfortable at interantional level...shame being so bloomin hotheaded has ended a promising england career so early.
