Best days behind him? Obviously don't watch much French rugby then!
End of last season, personally responsible for bonus point tries which got Racing to 2nd in the Top 14. Didn't anyone see him going 15m forward off a scrum, over the try line, ball in one hand & Thierry Dusautoir flailing about uselessly in the other?
Last week, against Toulouse, first scrum after he came on, mashed Toulouse back & won a penalty for Racing.
We were at Racing's 3 Heineken matches at Cardiff, Edinburgh & London Irish, and Chabal was still great to watch!

One of the few players in recent years that AB supporters actually feared (esp after his collision with Ali Williams), usually a wrecking ball against us. Sad to see another hardass character on the way out of the game, i'd prefer a Chabal, a Thorn or a Bakkies any day over the various rugbybots taking the game over.

@ edhutson - Hear! Hear! And we can bring Kaino in next season too. Although Attwood's no slouch, but I expect him to be busy with England in the future, so depth in the squad is required.

Sorry but has everyone else missed all of Chabals big hits, storming runs and fantastic pace or did I just imagine watching all those games?

He was a truely world class player for France and Sale. His best days are behind him, but I fondly rewatch him DESTROYING Chris Masoe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDSkYQML56A) and smashing Ali Williams jaw (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8XeZ6HzOlE).
Chabal: Truely one of the greats. Raise a glass.

come and help bath out? we have serious issues in the second row and scrum (and lineout), but you will love our physical attacking side to the game

Chabal is no doubt past his best, but I always rated him. I know nothing of his supposed arrogance, he always struck me as good-humoured and sporting - I remeber the grin, and the nudge and wink after he smashed Heaslip (which was fairly recently I think, last season or the season before?).

We don't know what was said so we can't really comment. He is way past his best so I guess that technically makes him overpaid - in his time he was very good but as soon as he started getting targeted he became a bit useless. Overhyped for sure, not sure about overrated

Here's a case of a player past his best but his ego won't let him see it. He ought to make the best of his popularity which gave him more than his playing ability deserved. A little bit of humility goes a long way, but that isn't the french way and certainly not Chabal.

Just what Toulon, need another ageing, over-rated, past his best has been of a player...
Maybe their owner bordjulla (or however you spell his name) should look at what the team actually needs on the pitch rather than just making ridiculous accusations against referee's and the French union.

Overpaid and overrated.

Hmm, Off to Toulon then? Their mad owner is more interested in big names rather than form anyway.
Chabal was a great contributor at Sale (and I'm not a big Sale fan) and Sale had his best years! He is getting on and he doesn't carry as well as he used to but it happens to every rugby player so lets just toast the good times eh, he's had a good run, he's popular, I'm sure he's getting lots of endorsements so here's to a modern day gladiator who's survived to tell the tale.

One of the most highly paid... over rated and over the hill.
Yep Toulon sounds like the perfect place for him

@curates_egg: Chabal was only overrated by the young crowd who does not know much about rugby. He is (or I should say was) not a bad player either. I can find many much more overrated players in the world (you can pick up a few in the Irish squad :)
