Snubbed: David Strettle

Saracens wing David Strettle is not getting too downhearted after his latest snub from the England camp, saying "it's just someone's opinion".

The 30-year-old, who has been superb for his club this season in both the Aviva Premiership and Heineken Cup, was axed from the Saxons.

England coach Stuart Lancaster instead went for youth as Jonny May, Anthony Watson and Jack Nowell found themselves in the international mix.

Despite this, Strettle, who takes on Toulouse on Sunday, is remaining upbeat as he looks to add to his impressive try scoring record in 2013/14.

"Stuart wants to build a team who are capable of winning the World Cup and, if that means blooding new players then so be it," he told the Daily Mail.

"If you go down the route of trying to please coaches then you are on a slippery slope. You may have one message from one coach and a different one from another.

"I remember in 2011 Johnno told me I'd done everything he'd asked of me but I thought, 'Well, if I've done everything you've asked of me, why did you bother bringing me into the camp but not pick me?'

"I was playing really well and what annoyed me was that he took Matt Banahan, who was a centre at the time, as a wing.

"I never get too downhearted if I'm not picked because it's just someone's opinion. Just because Stuart is picking 15 players, it doesn't definitively mean they're the best 15 players in his eyes. You have to think like that as a player."
