Australia lock Rob Simmons has been given an eight-week ban after being cited for a dangerous tackle during last Saturday's Test against France.
Simmons was suspended by the Six Nations, which oversees disciplinary issues during the November Tests, after being cited for a tip tackle on France openside flanker Yannick Nyanga.
He will miss Saturday's Test against England at Twickenham, as well as the games against Italy and Wales on the final two weekends of the tour. He is free to return to action on February 25.
A statement released on Wednesday by the Six Nations says a ban of fourteen weeks was reduced to eight because of mitigation, including Simmons' exemplary previous disciplinary record.

IrB you seem to be a complete joke !
Where is the consistently ?
Fair enough that Simmons gets a suspension but how can he get 8 weeks and Thomson only get one ?

1 week for Thompson and 8 for Simmo. This would be fair if Thompson got at least 6 weeks.
How does this equate to fair penalties for dangerous play? Both were intentional and injury threatening.

Hmmm, objectively I'd say this was quite a dangerous tackle and 8 weeks is ok. However compare this to some recent incidents, for example Sam Warburton's tackle in the World Cup quarter final, which was worse in my opinion and received only a three match ban.
Consider also that Adam Thompson received only a weeks ban for stamping on a Scottish players head, an act of deliberate thuggery made worse by the fact that the victim was trapped in a ruck and unable even to protect his head.
The whole citing process seems like a lottery and is terribly inconsistent.

Fair enough.
On this showing Thomson should cop 14 weeks for head stomping, or get off because he is a kiwi !!

That's about right; longer would have been fair for such a stupid/dangerous/blatant tackle but it seems the disciplinary panels give time off for prior good behaviour. As a Reds member I've seen him play many times and he's not a dirty player making this tackle all the more surprising. Right decision but just surprised he did what he did in the first place .....

harsh but sending out the right message...this just puts Higgingbotham's suspension in the lower scale of dangerous play...
