United States skipper Todd Clever has been cited for making a dangerous tackle in his side's game against Russia.
The back rower will face a disciplinary committee with regards to a late tackle committed during Thursday's 13-6 win over the Russians.
Clever was penalised during the game for tackling Victor Gresev after the ball had been passed and could now face further sanctions for his actions.
The hearing will take place in Auckland at an unconfirmed date.

I am amazed!! There was intent, it was reckless and clearly malicious. Yet again we see what annoys players, coaches and supporters so much: a massive inconsistency in the judicial process. I am sure one or two recently banned players (a large English lock amongst them) will be shaking their heads in bewilderment at this decision.

I particularly like the bit where they say in the short form decree from the IRB that a mitigating factor is that he didn't actually make a decent contact as the victim was already falling away due to a 'correct' tackle being made.....I can see it in courst now....."yes your honour my client DID try to shoot the other fella but as he missed with his shot, no harm done eh?" . I always thought that INTENT was a factor and from every OFFICIALLY released bit of film of the incident there is no doubting his intent. Courtney Lawes has reason to feel a wee bit aggrieved (not that I'm trying to excuse HIS behaviour either)

AUCKLAND, 17 Sept. - USA Captain Todd Clever was cited by Independent Citing Commissioner Murray Whyte (Ireland) under Law 10.4(e) for dangerous tackling and 10.4(g) for dangerous charging in the Rugby World Cup 2011 Pool C match against Russia in New Plymouth on September 15.
Clever admitted the offence under Law 10.4(e) and Independent Judicial Officer Judge Jeff Blackett (England) accepted that the offence was appropriately classified under this Law reference and not under Law 10.4(g).
Having conducted a detailed review of all the evidence available, including all broadcast angles and additional evidence from the Player and his Counsel, Robert Latham, the Judicial Officer upheld the citing under Law 10.4(e) for dangerous tackling.
With respect to the sanction, the Judicial Officer deemed the offence to be at the lower end of the scale of seriousness which has an entry point of two weeks. The Judicial Officer found that there were compelling on-field and/or off-field mitigating features and a complete absence of on-field and/or off-field aggravating features.
In particular he determined that the contact was between the USA player¿s upper arm and the victim player¿s chest. It was a glancing contact as the victim player was already falling away as a result of a legitimate tackle by another USA player. There was no adverse effect on the victim player or the match and the offence could not be described as a body check, which would have been more serious.
Therefore, in accordance with Disciplinary Rule 12.5 the Judicial Officer determined that no further sanction was necessary.
Clever is able to resume play with immediate effect and the long form decision will be made available within 24 hours.

Having now seen the shoulder torpedo that Clever delivered to the jaw of the Russian player I must agree that a citing is well deserved. Too bad really because I was looking forward to seeing him against Pocock, of course that was assuming the Wallabies even played him against the USA.

Any chances of a US upset over Italy are basically out the window if Clever isn't on the pitch. Last time it was Emerick's red card against England and now this. Hopefully more regular competition for the Eagles will eliminate some of this 'over-excitement.'

It wasn't just a late tackle but it was also a shoulder charge, no arms involved - a cheap shot because he wasn't getting everything his own way and eminently worthy of a citing.
