Ireland A up and running in Ontario

12th June 2008 07:42

Ireland A turned on the style in the second half of their opening Churchill Cup game to run out 46-9 victors over the USA in Ontario on Wednesday.

Having stuttered to a narrow 12-6 half-time lead Ireland ran riot in the second half, scoring five tries after the break.

Tries in the first half from Kieran Lewis and a penalty try set the Irish on their way, with the USA keeping in touch through Mike Hercus' boot.

In the second half Neil Best scored two tries in quick succession to put the game out of the Eagles' reach. From there it was one way traffic and three more tries gave the score-line a healthy look.

Late tries from Frank Murphy, Mark MacCrae and Denis Hurley iced the Irish victory.
