Confident: Eddie Jones

Japan head coach Eddie Jones has revealed that his side has set an objective of reaching the quarter-finals of 2015's Rugby World Cup.

Pooled with South Africa, Samoa, Scotland and USA, the Brave Blossoms have their work cut out to achieve the feat but Jones remains optimistic.

"That's the only reason you play in the World Cup," he said. "If you don't want to make the finals, there's no use going. You might as well not compete. We want to make the quarter-finals."

Japan host the 2019 showpiece and will hope to enter that tournament having added to their only World Cup win, back in 1991 against Zimbabwe.

"We want to go there and win every game," added the former Wallaby boss ahead of the 2015 event.

"This team are on the verge of doing something really good for Japanese rugby.

"Japan needs it because they host the 2019 World Cup. They need a vibrant national team."

He stressed: "There's always a chance for upsets.

"If you win a couple of games, there is a chance to make the quarter-finals."
