Not impressed: Patricio Albacete

Argentina lock Patricio Albacete says Santiago Phelan's decision to quit his role as head coach has left the Pumas in a "mess."

Phelan cited divisions within the Pumas squad and leaks to the press that ruined the atmosphere in the camp as the reasons behind his shock resignation on Monday.

Although Phelan did not name Albacete directly, it is understood that the veteran Toulouse lock did not see eye-to-eye with the coach.

Reports in the Argentine press suggest that the 32-year-old was the ring leader in a group of players not happy with the Phelan's selections and tactics.

Although Phelan was replaced the next day by Jaguars mentor Daniel Hourcade, Albacete slammed the former coach for quitting the team, saying he should "take responsibility for his decision."

"When you quit, it's too easy to say that it is the fault of others," said Albacete at a Toulouse press conference ahead of Saturday's Top 14 clash against Toulon.

"He should take responsibility for his decision. Nobody betrayed him.

"His decision leaves us in a right mess for the November Tests."

Argentina will face England on November 9, Italy a week later and Wales on November 23.
