Black Death: Afeleke Pelenise of New Zealand gets past Mzwandile Stick of South Africa
Wales pulled off the greatest victory of their Sevens history on Sunday, flooring Fiji in the Cup quarter-finals of the Edinburgh leg of the IRB World Sevens series.
Fiji would have retained their overall crown had they pocketed the 12 tournament points on offer for a quarter-final win, but they threw away the title in spectacular fashion.
Wales's win left the door open to New Zealand and the men in black needed no second invitation, beating South Africa to move through to the Cup semi-finals where they demolished the Welsh.
Samoa fell in the final and Fiji's misery was complete as New Zealand wrapped up an unlikely leg and series double.
DAY TWO - FIXTURES/RESULTS:
CUP
Wales pulled off the greatest victory of their Sevens history on Sunday flooring Fiji in the Cup quarter-finals of the Edinburgh leg of the IRB World Sevens series.
Wales drew first blood with Rhodri McAtee punctuated a cagey opening period by collecting a grubber to score.
Although looking decided off-colour, Fiji refused to panic and the evergreen Waisale Serevi answered back by powering over the line in clinical fashion.
Tal Selley hit back for Wales early in the second half, brushing off a poor tackle from William Ryder to score under the sticks. He was soon followed over the whitewash by Aled Thomas and a titanic upset loomed on the horizon.
Fiji worked Mesake Davu Narogo over for a converted try to leave the reigning champions just seven points adrift.
The last move of the match saw Semisi Naevo Saukawa get over the line, but he lost control of the ball in the act of scoring - it was all over for the Fijians.

The Kiwis were hugely impressive in seeing off the Boks in a physical encounter.
Gio Aplon's running from deep was a constant danger for South Africa but Afeleke Pelenise again proved the difference out wide for Gordon Tietjens' side as they hung on to win against a late onslaught,
Meanwhile, Scotland's great adventure will not end in Cup victory - Argentina sent the hosts to the Plate. And Samoa, still in contention for overall honours, weathered a Kenya scare.

Tomasi Cama and Adam Thompson inspired New Zealand to the victory over Wales in the first of the Cup semi-finals, and Samoa showed patience and class in overpowering the Pumas to reach the final.

Samoa fell in the final to complete Fiji's misery, with New Zealand wrapping up an unlikely leg and series double.
With Samoa captain Uale Mai suspended for elbowing an opponent in the semi final win over Argentina, New Zealand immediately siezed the initiative and Adam Thompson opened the scoring early on.
Samoa hit back through Fautua Otto but a further Thompson try and a brace from outstanding captain DJ Forbes either side of half time gave the kiwis a 24-5 lead that their lock-tight defence never looked likely to relinquish.
Further tries from playmaker Tomasi Cama and flier Afeleke Pelenise were the icing on the cake for coach Gordon Tietjens, who claims his seventh IRB Sevens World Series crown.
M44: Final Cup: New Zealand 34-5 Samoa
PLATE
Fiji kept alive their hopes of retaining their series crown by surviving a Bok onslaught to win in sudden-death extra time.
Gio Aplon broke through the Fijian defence at the end of 14 minutes of regulation time and converted his own try to take the game into overtime at 14-14. And after two minutes of almost constant defence in extra time, Mosese Volavola broke clear to seal the tie.
Fiji's safe passage to the Plate final also ended any hopes Samoa had of winning the series title.
M37: Semi-final Plate: Fiji 19-14 South Africa

Fiji clinched the Plate with an emphatic 31-7 win over Kenya - but it wasn't the victory the islanders had craved.
Tries by Saravanua, Vucago, Naqelevuki, Cakau and the tireless Mosese Volavola fired the islanders to a 31-0 lead before the African side hit back with a late consolation try from Naftali Ogolla.
M43: Final Plate: Fiji 31-7 Kenya
BOWL
England's Rob Thirlby scored his 100th and 101st tries in IRB Sevens rugby as England eased past Canada into the Bowl semis.
Canadian strike runner Dave Moonlight also passed the magical 100 figure yesterday but could do nothing to prevent England proceeding to a match up against Australia as scrum-half Danny Care inspired them to a confidence boosting win after a disppointing day one.
Glen Ella's Australians got the better of France in a fractious match, recording a 19-7 win.

England won through to the final of the Bowl with a sudden-death extra-time win against Australia, 24-19, and will play Portugal.
Michael Hills scored the golden try for England before Portugal had Aderito Esteves to thanks for his clinher out wide against Georgia.
M35: Semi-final Bowl: Australia 19-24 England
M36: Semi-final Bowl: Georgia 12-19 Portugal
England won a second successive Bowl at Murrayfield, debutant Noah Cato crossing for two late tries to make the score a rather flattering 31-0 against brave Portugal.
Danny Care was again at the heart of most of England's best endeavour as Ben Ryan's young side finished the year with two more series points, taking their series tally to 52. England's other tries in the final were scored by Tom Williams (2) and Michael Hills.

SHIELD
France brushed aside the disappointment of a Bowl quarter final loss to beat Canada and reach the final of the Shield, where they will play the impressive Russians.

France brushed aside the disappointment of three losses on day one, and the loss of Charles Platek to a broken leg, to win the Edinburgh Shield.
Russia were always in the final through the bullocking runs of outstanding wing Vladimir Ostroushko but tries by Nicolas Breuil, Nicolas Carmona and captain Patrick Bosque secured a 21-12 victory.
