Glasgow ran out 14-6 winners over the Scarlets in horrendous weather conditions at Scotstoun during Saturday's PRO12 clash.

Niko Matawalu's try and six points from the boot of Duncan Weir gave the Warriors an 11-3 lead at the interval, while Olly Barkley's penalty was the Welsh region's sole response in the opening period.

Weir and Barkley were on target after the break, but they proved to be the only scores of the half.

Gregor Townsend's men went into the match eight points behind fourth place Ospreys but, with two games in hand over the Welsh region, the advantage still lies with the Warriors.

Both teams also welcomed back their international players from Six Nations' duty and it was one of those individuals, Weir, who opened the scoring via a penalty.

The Scotland fly-half, who started every match for the national team in the recent tournament, then extended Glasgow's lead with a second three-pointer.

Although Barkley reduced the arrears from the tee, a period of pressure from the hosts resulted in Matawalu darting over just before the break having picked an excellent inside line.

Weir and Barkley traded penalties early in the second period, but the heavy pitch and difficult conditions made it difficult for either side to mount any serious attacks.

However, on the hour mark, a superb move which involved both forwards and backs took the home side to within inches of the try-line.

A knock-on ended the passage of play but it didn't prove costly as the Warriors comfortably held on for the win.
