Kiwi Frazier Climo has joined Scarlets from Taranki pending the outcome of his visa application.
Climo, who as comfortable on the wing, at full-back or at fly-half, is unlikely to arrive in Wales before November as he awaits for clearance.
"We are very pleased Climo is joining us," said Scarlets coach Simon Easterby told the club's official website,
"He's been a standout for the provincial side Taranki in the NPC over the past few years.
"We look forward to what he can bring to what is already a very talented and Scarlets back line."
It will not be the 26-year-old's first foray into European rugby, having turned out for Scottish club Ayr in 2008/09.
"I am delighted to be joining the Scarlets, which is clearly a club with a great history and brilliant, passionate supporters. It's a region that's known and respected around the world and I am honoured to have the opportunity to link up with such a great club," said Climo.
"Having spoken to Simon Easterby about the very young and talented squad based in West Wales, I am extremely excited to play a part in the club's ambitions this season and looking forward to linking up with everyone in November.
"I'll work hard to really contribute widely to its future success."
