Cardiff Blues captain and number eight Andries Pretorius has been ruled out for four months following a shoulder operation.
Pretorius was selected in the 35-man Wales squad for this year's Six Nations, but has been suffering with a shoulder injury since December and aggravated it against Edinburgh.
Following consultation with the medical team, Pretorius underwent shoulder reconstruction surgery on Friday and the South African-born Blues star is due to return to full training in May.
