Phil Davies: Couldn't watch the last five minutes

Cardiff Blues director of rugby Phil Davies believes Wednesday's 12-10 PRO12 victory over the Dragons was a fitting reward for his players.

Blues fly-half Rhys Patchell was his side's hero, slotting four crucial penalties. This sealed only their third win in their last 14 matches in all competitions and only their second PRO12 triumph of the season at home.

Davies admitted that it was difficult to watch the closing stages of the match.

"I couldn't watch the last five minutes," he told Walesonline

"I don't know what's wrong with me.

"I'm flipping 50 next year!

"That's the first time I've been like that for a long time.

"I was so nervous for the players. Just the effort they have put in week-in, week-out has been brilliant and we've not got a lot of rewards at times.

"It's been pretty painful with some results and to see them after the game was great."

Dragons coach Darren Edwards had mixed feelings after his side looked on course for victory when they went ahead through a converted Andy Tuilagi try and a penalty from replacement Lewis Robling.

They were eventually denied the win by a late Patchell three-pointer from the kicking tee.

"I am so proud on the one hand and so disappointed on another," said Edwards.

"You shouldn't lose games when you've got that sort of dominance.

"It's the penalties that cost us. I am so annoyed that we caused problems for ourselves.

'It would have been great for the guys, great for us all to get a win.

"It really hurts. We really fronted up and just didn't get the result.

"It's really disappointing for the players because they gave everything."
