The Japanese rugby clubs are really careful about who they take on after some recreational drug failures and assault incidents by foreign players a few seasons ago. Hence why one of their top RWC2007 players Christian Loamanu now plays for Toulon and is permanently banned from playing for Japan and any Japanese club team. Even Kirwan who thought with four years since the banning, the player had done his penance, couldn't persuade the JRFU to change their position last year.
With the trouble he's been in, no Japanese club would touch him with a barge pole.
