Treviso: Three tries to nill victory

Treviso finished their Magners League campaign on a high note as the Italians thumped Edinburgh 31-6 at Stadio di Monigo on Friday.

Two tries by full-back Luke McLean inspired the win while lock Corniel van Zyl also went over. Fly-half Willem De Waal added 16 points with the boot to help garner their ninth victory of the year.

All Edinburgh's points came from full-back Chris Paterson and the result means they finish in eighth position.

Despite their lowly stature, Treviso have ultimately enjoyed a successful first season in the Magners League and they came racing out of the blocks.

In the second minute, McLean scampered over for a try, De Waal converting, before the fly-half extended that advantage with a penalty.

The reliable kickers, De Waal and Paterson, then traded penalties to leave the score at 13-3 with a quarter-of-an-hour played.

However, the game's intensity subsided for the next few minutes until the hosts' stand-off booted another three points to open up a sizeable gap. Paterson responded with one of his own to leave Treviso in control at the break.

De Waal continued where he had left off in the first period when he kicked a penalty.

With 10 minutes to go, McLean scored his second try and although De Waal missed the conversion, he made up for that by adding the extras to van Zyl's score, which put the icing on a productive year for the Italian side.
