Crusaders inside centre Ryan Crotty hailed his forward pack for laying the foundations for their impressive 40-20 win over the Brumbies on Saturday.

The men from Christchurch crossed three times at AMI Stadium while Colin Slade contributed 23 points off the tee as they beat the Australians.

Victory has pushed the Crusaders up to second spot in the New Zealand conference and for All Black Crotty the result was pleasing to witness.

"To come out and create the quick ball that we did allowed us to really play," he said after the win, with their next fixture at the Reds on Sunday.

"We knew we had to upset (their forwards) if we were going to be a chance. Their lineout is one of the best in the comp, and their scrum as well, so big ups to our tight five, they really fronted."
