Lachie Turner: Set to feature at 15

The Reds will trial wing recruit Lachie Turner at full-back as they plan to introduce extra speed into their attack.

Turner, who made a surprise move from the Waratahs, after two injury-plagued Super Rugby seasons, joined his new franchise at the first day of pre-season training on Tuesday.

He said it was his desire to combine with the seasoned internationals like Will Genia and Quade Cooper which prompted him to sign a two-year deal with the Brisbane-based outfit.

"It was a big inspiration for me in coming up here, a big reason for it," Turner told AAP.

The 15-Test Wallaby, who suffered a torn hamstring and broken leg which ruined his 2012 and 2013 seasons, said new Reds coach Richard Graham's expansive vision convinced him to join the 2011 champions.

Turner knows he has a difficult job to secure a spot in the Reds' back three with Dom Shipperley and Chris Feauai-Sautia boasting Test experience and Rod Davies return from a knee operation.

However, Graham predicted a possible move away from the wing for Turner who was viewed by many enthusiasts as a replacement for Digby Ioane who is now based at Stade Franšais.

"I'd like to see how he trains over the next three months," Graham said.

"I see him playing 15 equally as well as he does on the wing.

"The Reds want to play an exciting brand and Lachie with his skill set - he's a big man, he's tall, he's quick and loves being involved in the game - will really suit our game in that outside channel."
