Blues: Do double over Hurricanes

The Blues outclassed the Hurricanes for a second time in 2013 after sweeping past their Kiwi rivals 28-6 at Eden Park on Saturday.

Tries to Frank Halai, Charles Piutau, James Parsons and Tom McCartney earned a well-deserved bonus point for the hosts, but it was the performance of flank Steve Luatua who stole the show.

It was another eye-catching performance from the 21-year-old which surely would have been duly noted by the All Blacks' selectors as the rampant Blues kept the tryless 'Canes scoreless in the second half.

The five points sees the Blues leapfrog the Hurricanes, who sank to their third loss, into second place in the New Zealand conference.

The hosts got their supporters on their feet in the 12th minute when brilliant full-back Charles Piutau sent winger Frank Halai over for the first try of the match.

The Hurricanes hit back through a the boots of Tusi Pisi and Beauden Barrett, courtesy of a drop-goal and penalty respectively. It would, however, be the last time the visitors would score in the match.

Piutau was then rewarded for his hard work with a well-worked try after Luatua was denied by the TMO moments earlier. Chris Noakes added the extras, which game the Blues a handy 14-6 lead at half-time.

The result was all but secured with more than 20 minutes remaining when front-rowers Parsons and McCartney powered over the whitewash.

Piutau came close to scoring his second but couldn't ground a grubber kick cleanly, while the Hurricanes were denied a consolation try by the TMO after it was judged that Luatua put a foot in touch and play was brought back.
