Stormers trio on their way back

Jaco Taute Stormers training 2013

Close to full fitness: Jaco Taute

The Stormers are set to be boosted by the return of Springbok backs Juan de Jongh and Jaco Taute as well as utility forward Michael Rhodes from injury.

Stormers coach Allister Coetzee said De Jongh (hamstring), Taute (groin) and Rhodes (hamstring) will continue with one-on-one rehabilitation this week.

They will all be ready for full training next week - ahead of the Stormers' next match against the Brumbies on Saturday March 23 in Cape Town.

Coetzee also revealed that Bok wing Bryan Habana underwent a scan on the knee injury he sustained in last Saturday's win over the Chiefs.

Habana has partially torn his medial collateral ligament and will be out of action for ten weeks.

"When you lose a Springbok and a quality player like Bryan (Habana) it's never an ideal situation, but we're getting Jaco Taute back," explained Coetzee.

"Gerhard van den Heever played very, very well when he came on, and Gio Aplon played just as well, so we have enough replacements there," said Coetzee.

"We wish Bryan well for a speedy recovery and when he returns he'll be back in the mix, but our focus is fully on the replacements now.

"The bye has come at a good time for us, as it will allow these few injury niggles that we have to clear up and, importantly, it will also allow us to take stock of where we're at after our first three games."

@Fish, yes I think you are being a bot harsh on De Jongh. His stats show that being under-sized he still makes all his tackles? He played well with Jacque Fourie and I'd like to see them together again for the Boks. Who else do you rate? Steyn and Jordaan are good (Sharks) .... Wynaard Oliver is boring .... and Robert Ebersohn for the Cheetahs is completely ignored by selectors?

@fish tell me please which centre is better in RSA...for his lack of size he defend better then most and his attacking skills....i dont think i need to elaborate on that we all know he's the best attacking centre in this country currently ....stop hatin' man!

de jongh is vastly overrated, at a super rugby level he's ok, with a good game here and there, but he isnt bok material

I agree JayStarr! I traditionally used to prefer big strong centres like Steyn (Sharks) and Sonny Bill Williams. But de Jongh proved how a smaller player with a deft side-step is magical to watch!! His try in the last Curry Cup final win over the Sharks was brilliant! I'd have him at centre for the 'Boks....but who do you pick as his centre partner? Steyn? JDV? Jacque Fourie? I think JDV's best days are behind him.

Having Juan de Jongh back will offset some of what we're losing with Bryan Habana. He looked very good in pre-season, so hopefully he can pick up where he left off and provide the spark in our backline. No South African back has a better hand-off or side-step... or post-try celebration!
