Sir John Kirwan: So far so good for the new Blues coach

Blues coach Sir John Kirwan admitted he wasn't expecting the perfect start to the Super Rugby season, following his side's second bonus-point win on the trot.

The Aucklanders demolished arch-rivals the Crusaders 34-15 on Friday to maintain their early season momentum and show they will be a force to be reckoned with in this year's tournament.

The Blues ran in five tries to nil for a bonus-point win against the seven-time champions, with all the Crusaders' points coming from Dan Carter.

An off night with the boot from Piri Weepu prevented the scoreline from being even more lop-sided, with the Blues half-back missing three conversions and two penalties.

"If you had of said to Ali Williams and I when we were sitting having a cup of tea talking about him being captain and me being coach three months ago and said you'll be 10 points after your first two games we would have probably felt a million dollars," said Kirwan

Williams said the performance, which builds on an upset win over the Hurricanes last week, was all about regaining respect after a dismal 2012 season when they finished 12th.

"We lost a lot last year and we're slowly going to try and get it back one game at a time," he said.
