Six to eight weeks for Etzebeth

Ruled out: Eben Etzebeth

Eben Etzebeth has been ruled out for six to eight weeks after suffering torn ligaments in his left ankle during a pre-season game against Boland.

Springbok forward Etzebeth limped off in the first half of team's 57-0 pre-season win on Saturday.

"It's unfortunate for the team and Eben, but like I said after the match yesterday injuries are part and parcel of the game," said Stormers coach Alistair Coetzee.

"We are fortunate to have players in our squad who can step in and fill that role and that's our focus for now - to find a player to fill that No.4 lock role.

"At the same time, however, our medical team will also ensure that Eben recovers well and comes back strongly for the Stormers."

1st58: we have Launchbury. I would not swap them. Even in the autumn with Joes first cap (I think) he gained parity with Bok. He's improved since.

It's a big loss, but it's ok. The poor guy played so much rugby last year he deserves a longer break. And it's funny how in just a year everyone forgot about the FIRST "next Bakkie Botha" - Rynhardt Elstadt. He looked his old self in the game against Boland - carried exceptionally well and always had the edge in contact - so if anything, we'll just improve our depth for the season.

Sorry to hear this - I think this guy is the most promising young forward in the game (wish he was English).
