It sucks for him, but the friendly wasn't a terrible idea. A three week break means if they hadn't, most of the team wouldn't have played for almost a month coming into a 3 game stretch where the Canes and the Reds are both right on the edge of finals qualification. What does suck is that TJ should've been allowed to be in SA with the under 20s...

markpat - out till 2013 Super season; will miss all the ITM Cup and the end of year NH tours, if he missed the ABs surely would have been part of the NZ Maori tour also in November.

Has to be tough for TJ sitting in a Brizzie hospital while Smith lays down his claim to the AB 9 jersey . But I predict he'll get a crack in November .
