Gloucester move: Greig Laidlaw

Gloucester have unveiled the signing of Scotland international scrum-half Greig Laidlaw, who will be a "nine-come-10" at Kingsholm next season.

The 28-year-old, who has 27 caps for his country, replaces Freddie Burns at the club in 2014/15 and is brought in partly for his solid goal-kicking.

"He's likely to be first-choice 10 but we've got a few combinations there," Gloucester director of rugby Davies told Press Association Sport.

"We see him very much as a nine-come-10, which he has done at Scotland, he's played 40 per cent of his games at 10 for Scotland.

"He's the right type of character that we need to bring into this group.

"He's a natural leader, and he impacts games very positively.

"He's a true 80 per cent-plus goal-kicker, so we're very excited about that."

Laidlaw, currently a key part of Scotland's Six Nations squad, admitted that he is excited.

"At this stage of my career, this is a fantastic opportunity and challenge for me. I've thoroughly enjoyed my time with Edinburgh to date, but this is a chance for me to test myself in a completely new environment," he said.

"Gloucester impressed me from the off - the stadium, the training facilities, the heritage and history of the club. A number of my Scotland team mates have played for Gloucester and they had nothing but good things to say about the club.

"When Nigel (Davies) outlined his plans and ambitions for the future, it became a very easy decision. He and everyone there want to see Gloucester competing at the very top of the club game and that's something I very much look forward to being part of."
