Hopeful: Mike Ford

Bath head coach Mike Ford has admitted that cross-code star Sam Burgess has taken a pay cut to join the Premiership outfit.

"It's not about the money with Sam," he told talkSPORT.

"He's a megastar over in Australia with his endorsements and wages. He's earning a lot. He's taken a drop in wages to come here and he wants to prove himself.

"The move has been in the back of his mind for a while and international rugby union appeals to him.

"He wants to play in the Rugby World Cup [in 2015]. He's itching to try something new.

"The environment is right for him to transform quickly. We've got a couple of rugby league players already who are doing very well.

"I'm steeped in rugby league so we understand the issues and we'll be able to help him along the way quickly."
