Pride: Nigel Davies

Gloucester director of rugby Nigel Davies praised his squad for giving everything in their narrow loss to Leicester Tigers.

The Cherry and Whites have endured a frustrating season and their regular troubles at the scrum was picked upon by the champions in the 11-8 defeat.

However, the 10th-placed club gave their all in attempting to secure a rare win at Welford Road, including a special try from Charlie Sharples that illustrated how well Gloucester can play on the attack.

"The work in the contact area was exceptional, the way they committed," said Davies.

"The set-piece was a concern, we came under a lot of pressure there but the way we played around was great.

"What can you say when the guys have given everything? We have just got to use this as the benchmark moving forwards.

"We have got to look at ourselves, we had Leicester in good positions and should have had more points on the board at half time.

"Leicester are the best scrummaging team in the league, I thought our scrum got better throughout the game.

"We are not where we need to be, this has been a long old season but we have put in some good performances this season.

"We have got to be like this week in week out now."

Gloucester's scrummaging woes are set to be eased by the recruitment of John Afoa and Richard Hibbard for next season, but their current campaign is faltering with 12 points separating them from a spot in the top six.
