Bath aim to add more than Burgess

Bath boss Mike Ford has revealed that the signing of rugby league star Sam Burgess will not signal the end of the club's recruitment.

Negotiations are ongoing to bring Burgess to The Rec, with a rumoured transfer fee of £500,000 being negotiated between Bath and NRL club the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Recruiting the England forward would be a huge coup for Bath, but Ford insists that even that signing would not signal the end of owner Bruce Craig's ambitions as the club continues its resurgence.

"Recruitment is always ongoing," Ford told the Telegraph.

"Even when our squad is signed for this year, we'll be looking at players and making notes about recruitment for next year.

"We are not going to mention anybody until ink is signed on the paper. But, of course, everybody knows who Sam Burgess is. He's a very good rugby league player."

Victory over Newcastle Falcons has kept Bath third in the Premiership and Ford admitted that with a young talented squad at his disposal, the future was looking positive.

"We are massively excited about what lies ahead for the rest of the season," added Ford.

"It is a very positive environment at this club. Trying to get up for games week in, week out is the tough part. It's all about consistency.

"You take nothing for granted in the Premiership. Newcastle were fighting for their lives so we knew they would not make it easy for us."
