Bullish: Dean Ryan

Worcester Warriors director of rugby Dean Ryan remains confident that his team can survive relegation from the Aviva Premiership.

Sixways has been a source of little joy for Worcester fans this season, with the bottom side entering 2014 without a win in the league and ten points clear of safety.

A must-win clash this weekend against 11th-placed London Irish offers the Warriors an enormous chance to kickstart their season and close the gap between themselves and safety heading into the second half of the campaign.

Commenting on the high morale in the squad, with the signing of Cardiff Blues back-row Andries Pretorius also confirmed on Friday, Ryan believes his team have improved in recent weeks despite failing to win.

"We have what it takes to get us out of this position," said Ryan.

"For a side that hasn't got a win on the board, we couldn't be in better shape or better spirits.

"We've learnt how to deal with things instead of thinking it is the end of the world.

"In the last five or six games we have been consistently competitive against significant opposition.

"We have improved dramatically defensively. We've improved our cohesion and we understand what we're trying to do collectively. We weren't any of those things at the beginning.

"We are in a fight until the end of the season, and we are all focused on doing our jobs."
