Guy Mercer for Bath

Two tries: Guy Mercer

Bath bounced back from their recent loss to Saracens with a 33-18 Aviva Premiership victory over London Irish at the Recreation Ground on Saturday.

Bath had been poor at Allianz Park and required a response, while London Irish were also chasing a win after being beaten at home to Exeter the previous week.

It took just six minutes for the hosts to get over for the game's first try, as Jonathan Joseph stretched out to score following efficient work at the line-out.

George Ford added the conversion and he was on target less than 15 minutes later as he added the extras to Guy Mercer's try, scored following smart play from Ford.

The try came after Shane Geraghty had stemmed the tide with a penalty goal, and the Exiles play-maker converted his own try before half-time, but Bath reaffirmed their dominance with three more tries of their own ahead of the interval.

Ford turned from provider to finisher, before Rob Webber crossed and Mercer added his second of the afternoon. Ford was on target with two of the conversion attempts to make it 33-10 at half-time.

With the damage done and bonus point secured in the first half, Bath appeared content to sit on their lead following the break.

A penalty goal from Geraghty put the visitors within 20 points, but the Bath defence stood firm in the minutes that followed, and as the game approached the final 20 the Exiles' hopes of a comeback deteriorated.

Their efforts were rewarded as Geraghty added to his points haul with an unconverted try ten minutes from time, but Bath emerged comfortable winners.
