Chris Ashton is confident that playing in the J.P. Morgan 7s will benefit him and his Saracens team-mates going into the new Premiership campaign.
Ashton, left out of both the England and Lions squads that toured Argentina and Australia respectively, said he enjoyed playing Sevens.
"It was a great night," the 26 year-old told Saracens' website.
"It was good to get a good run around and get some contact in.
"There was an awful lot more action than what I thought there was going to be, but it was good as I haven't played sevens for about five years - I really enjoyed it."
He added: "There has not been many opportunities for me to play sevens."
"I thought this was the perfect time to go and do it - with being off so long you need to get used to the hits again and it was great to do that with the season start fast approaching."
"In the build-up we have been concentrating on our overall preseason and getting that quality work in for the beginning of the season, so tonight has been good for the lads as they will be a better understanding between everyone and spending some more time this week in preparation for Bath on Friday will make the team stronger. It's all part of the preparation for this season, pre-season has been great so far and every player is putting the work in."
With the onset of the new season only weeks away Ashton enjoyed the atmosphere generated at a floodlit Allianz Park on Saturday and hopes that the fans will continue to flock to NW4 this season.
"It was good to play at Allianz Park under the floodlights," he said.
"There was a fantastic atmosphere and I didn't really expect to see such a huge crowd - it was great to see so many people turning up in the season's first event and I hope that we can build on crowds that were generated last season, as it is a place where I really enjoy playing."
