Fourie given new visa options

Allowed to stay in UK, for now: Hendre Fourie

Former England and Sale flank Hendre Fourie has been told he does not have to leave Britain after retiring from rugby.

Fourie - who won eight caps for England and has lived in the UK for eight years - thought he only had 60 days left in the country after his contract with Sale was terminated following two failed operations to try repair a serious shoulder injury.

But the UK Border Agency informed the South African forward on Tuesday that the process had not yet been started, as well as offering him options that would enable him to remain in the United Kingdom.

"We have not curtailed Mr Fourie's visa at this time and he is not required to leave the UK," a UK Border Agency spokesman told the Daily Telegraph.

"His employment contract with Sale Rugby Club has been terminated and his employer has rightly informed UKBA of this decision. We are considering what action to take next.

"If an individual's circumstances change and they no longer meet the terms of their specific visa they can apply for a visa of a different type.

"Mr Fourie has been informed of the process and the various options available to him. It is entirely up to him if he chooses to explore any of them further."

Fourie's "sports people visa" was due to expire in June but he said earlier in this week that he would love to stay in the country and pursue a career in teaching.

If Fourie was being dense and couldn't find the correct end of a pen, I rescind my original post. It had occurred to me at the time that he might have been engaged in discussions with immigration as a result of UKBA being informed of the change in circumstances. I assumed that this is where he got the inclination towards persona non grata. In any case for services rendered he deserves to stay. I'm not sure how he got started on the terrorist thing, a very emotive comment to say the least.

@ Ed - sorry. Sometimes I have the strength to resist, sometimes I don't.

I shall fortify myself and try harder.

Typical of the censorship of PR staff. Please tell me what the comments by the clowns below had to do with rugby? Why are they allowed to post non-rugby related topics but I'm not? Oh, I forgot. As in international rugby, there is one set of rules for South Africans and another for everyone else.

The editor says.... @BokAvenger: Your comments have been deleted. They had nothing to do with rugby. @ Everyone else - Let's stick to rugby please. Don't feed the troll.

BokAvenger... what does your monika actually mean? Are you avenging all wrongs big and small against your beloved highveldt, or are you a gun for hire? I ask this as when I was 13 a lad at my school stole a sandwich out of my lunchbox and I'm still fumming about it. I tell you I want to be avenged!

Do you wear your pants/undies over your tights when you do your avenging? I would like to hire you and would request full regalia for the occassion. It's about time this guy paid! What do you say my good man?

Will let you work out who I support, small clue for your small mind, my national rugby team has been intergrated since about 1905 (would have been sooner if they had a national team before then) except when they were not allowed to include certain players when touring SA. That was our disgrace, to be dictated to by a bunch of boofheads.

Enough on this subject it is history and most of our SA friends have moved on (apart from you and and Fourie that is)

APV1 says...

@ BokAvenger - you're doing it again and you still can't see it. Why don't you go back to your brai with all of your imaginary chums? It might wake you up to reality a little when you realise that you're all alone, despite sending out invitations, because people just don't like you.

You acuse me of lying - nope. You fail to read correctly - yep. Please get your carer to read out this exerpt from my previous post and help you with the comprehension:

" How many times have you misread and misinterpreted articles or replies? How many times have blatantly twisted and distorted what has been written to suit your addled mind's bias?"

What I'm trying to explain is that you are an imbecile of the highest order, who cannot see past the end of their own nose. Such is your blinkered view of the world, you manipulate others' posts to support an nonsensical argument, despite it being utter tosh.

Hold on!

I've found the perfect career for you!

If you can persuade your carers to let you out (supervised, of course), you'd make a brilliant politician. Even in SA! You could talk nonsense all day long. You could alter statistics to support any argument you like. You could annoy even more people than you already do.

It's perfect!

And the panties I'm wearing aren't mine.

BokAvenger says...

APV1- please put your panties back on and calm down. You're the one who started this whole debate by denying that people had called South Africans anything other than Saffas. Then when I provided proof that you were lying you tried to wriggle out of it in typical pom fashion. Now you're crying because I'm having my say. Why don't you put a teaspoon of cement in your coffee and harden the xxxx up?

BokAvenger says...

@Trader2 - well tell us where you're from then mate, so we can all dredge up your country's racial history to bolster our points? Let me see Aus, NZ, the US. Please do tell. I'm sure your country's history is spotless. The Poms sure as hell seem to think theirs is.

ditto what APV1 had just said. You are (were) obviously a forward as well but you know how to hurt me, assuming me to be English, oh woe is me, then again another one of you stupid assumptions. You are pretty good at playing the race card given it took you blokes about 150 years to realise what it meant.

Posted 12:44 10th January 2013

APV1 says...

@ BokAvenger - I think if you learn to read (or have someone clever read it out to you), you will find that most of us POMS did slate Robshaw's decision-making in the Aus and SA matches. Many of us believe that these were a huge contributing factors in the final results.

The good thing is, and despite being a forward, he is quite bright. So he learned and his decision-making for England and Quins since has been pretty much spot on.

And that's the difference. He's bright and can learn, you're obviously not.

How many times have people wished you would just go away and leave the debate to the intelligent posters? How many times have you misread and misinterpreted articles or replies? How many times have blatantly twisted and distorted what has been written to suit your addled mind's bias? And how many of those who note these constant barrages into our lives have expressed as much? And how many of us wish you would just take the hint and go away?

Posted 10:58 10th January 2013

BokAvenger says...

@Trader2: Thank you for showing everyone what true racism is. However, may I point out that if you want an example of someone being "not too bright" perhaps take a look at the decision by your Captain Robshaw in the dying minutes of the test match against SA. Now that's what I call stupid. But then again he is a forward and a P...oops, can't say that.

Trader2 says...

Hmmm as suspected Fourie is just not that bright it would seem, then again he is a forward and a .... opps cannot say that.

Bokavenger

So... you don't read the article properly and suddenly you're talking about "fault". Why do you Boks always play the victim?

I don't see the UKBA saying anywhere that he is at "fault". He moaned to the press about "being deported" and it's clear that no such thing was occurring. Typical pathetic Bok bleating.

If he doesn't qualify to stay in the country then too bad for him. There are plenty of people who have come to the UK on work permits and had their employment terminated through no fault of their own. They have had to leave the country... why should a rugby player be treated any differently just because he's a mercenary who will play for any country that takes him?

Yeah, I thought it might be him that was at fault. All this hot air and he hasn't even tried to look into ways to stay using paper work. Just complain to the media, mention terrorists, and someone else will do it all for you.

@hellovanite

Hello troll.

@pierredelot1

Yawn, change the topic, why are you so desperate the English players in France to play for England? Surely the less players playing for their country in France the better the level of competition in the Top 14 all year round?

Posted 12:30 09th January 2013

pierredelot1 says...

Just beginning to wonder if French based players would be wise to apply for a job permit/visa. Then they might get to play for England. Wishful thinking.

Posted 11:07 09th January 2013

APV1 says...

I wonder if he'll get off his backside and sort it out now?

I do feel for him and his family (especially his son), but the more you look into this, the more responsibility lies with him.

@ hellovanite - he's essentially here on a working visa and qualifies, according to the IRB, to play for England. They are entirely separate issues from citizenship, as you well know. And if you can honestly say that you are unable to distiguish between them, then you don't have the intelligence I've given you credit for.

And, no, many of us not happy with the IRB eligibility rules. And yes, I have contacted the IRB and explained where I think it's flawed and how I believe it could be improved fairly. Have you?

@ DrDeath - you know us forwards can't read or write. In fact, I'm dictating this to a clever person. He's a back and is quite a good bloke, despite being a nancy.
