McCall backs Farrell to bounce back

Saracens v Leicester Owen Farrell

Farrell: Bad day with the boot

Saracens coach Mark McCall has backed fly-half Owen Farrell to brush off his Wembley woes after suffering a difficult day during his side's 9-9 Premiership draw with Leicester Tigers.

Farrell, 20, missed four of his five penalty attempts before conceding goal-kicking duties to Charlie Hodgson.

"Owen's not had much practice recently. He's had a small groin injury which has stopped him practising as much as usual and it's very rare he has a day like this," said McCall.

"He's a magnificent player for us but every man has the odd bad day at the office and I know he has the strength of character to come back.

"He's the sort of player who will use a day like this to bounce back stronger."

McCall's opposite number at Leicester Richard Cockerill added: "We could have won it at the end, they could have won it at the end and these games tend to be close between the two of us.

"But it wasn't a great spectacle and there were a lot of mistakes from both sides.

"It was a tough game away from home so we will take it and move on.

"We did some good things but need to take our opportunities a bit better."

Sarries should take confidence that they have much better and more expensive hair cuts than Leicester. Perhaps it's another perk to get around the pay caps. They clearly realise it's attention to such details that will give them the edge at the end of the season. And such lovely shirts too; it's just a matter of time until a boost in confidence will result from this new pretty boy strategy kicks in.
