Rib injury: Tom Taylor

The curse of the All Black number ten jersey has struck once more with Tom Taylor ruled out of action for three weeks by a rib injury.

Taylor suffered the injury while making his Test debut against Australia on Saturday. The Canterbury man put in an impressive performance before being forced off in the closing stages after taking a knock to the ribs.

An assessment of the injury has determined that he will not be fit for the All Blacks clash with Argentina in Hamilton on September 7.

'It seems to be a bogey in Wellington for 10s, that's for sure, but its just the way it is and we have to cope with it, we can't change it,'' commented coach Steve Hansen.

Taylor was New Zealand's fourth choice pivot, and only got a call-up after injuries to Dan Carter, Aaron Cruden and Beauden Barrett.

Fortunately for the All Blacks, Carter and Barrett are expected to be available to face Argentina, as will Colin Slade who was a replacement on Saturday.

''At this stage we are expecting Dan and Beauden to be right, but Colin Slade will come with us to Hamilton," explained Hansen.

''They trained on Friday at the captain's run. The medical staff are happy with them but we'll have to wait how they go this week in training and hope they stay on track."

Flanker Liam Messam is working his way back from a hamstring injury suffered in the build-up to the Rugby Championship opener last week and is "touch and go" for the match in Hamilton.

There are also injury concerns regarding Owen Franks (groin) and Ma'a Nonu (ankle).
